Independance vs assimilation: the compared case of Barbados, Haiti and Martinique
|
|
At a particular time in their history, the former English and French colonies of Barbados, Haiti and Martinique have had to decide what their future should be. While Barbados and Haiti gained independence, Martinique opted for integration into France, its mother-country as a French overseas department. By questioning their economic performance, we try to determine the key elements of their respective results framed by their political status. Thus, the remainder of this paper is the following: Section 1 introduces the general historical frame of the countries in the matter. Section 2 compares the results. Section 3 proposes some economic policies for Haiti and Section 4 is conclusive.
