Article Title

Technology in Teacher Preparation Programs: Implications for the Next 50 Years

Abstract

The growth of educational technology and its increasing use in the classroom has contributed to a more student centered classroom environment where teachers as “facilitators of learning” encourage students to become more actively engaged in their learning. This impact of technology on instructional delivery demands that teacher preparation programs critically examine how teachers are prepared to use technology to support teaching and learning. Consequently, this paper explores how teacher preparation programs can utilize the large and rapidly changing technologies to augment teaching and optimize learning. Additionally, the use of technology in the Caribbean, its impact on Small Island States (SIS), and its role in development within these areas will be explored.
