Erica Gordon

Biography

Erica Gordon joined the UCCI team in August 2007 as a Senior Lecturer. She is currently the Assistant Chair of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her background as an educator for more than fifteen years enhances the offerings of UCCI in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. As a Lecturer in Spanish and English, Miss Gordon assists students in developing those skills that are essential to function effectively in the Caymanian society and in the global village. She assists in the delivery of courses to students in the Associate Degree Programme, Continuing Education Programme and the Civil Service College.

Miss Gordon brings experience from teaching at the secondary and tertiary levels in Jamaica, after receiving training from the Mico Teacher Training College and the University of the West Indies, Mona. She is in the final phase of completing her PhD with the University of London.

The Caribbean Examinations Council – Successful Symbol of Regional Integration

Abstract

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) was established out of a need to provide local examinations to Caribbean people. The Council was mandated to replace metropolitan examinations with relevant, regional ones that would advance the nationalist or independent sentiments pervading the region. This paper seeks to assess the extent to which CXC has successfully fulfilled its mandate. The factors impacting their success, the indices and the level of their success will be evaluated with specific reference to the case of Jamaica.
