  • Discuss and share ideas on critical and urgent issues in leadership, governance and empowerment relating to the region, including the Cayman Islands, in an intellectually rich and liberating environment;
     
  • Develop your research portfolio as you present academic papers and obtain critical feedback from your peers, other professionals and special interests; and
     
  • Deliberate in working and social sessions with local and international academics and thinkers, and with civil and political influencers at various echelons of leadership in the Cayman Islands and the region; serve as panel chairs and rapporteurs.

This conference’s keynote speaker is the first-ever Commonwealth Secretariat Secretary-General from the third world, Sir Shridath Surendranath Ramphal. A King’s College (UK) and Harvard educated Guyanese barrister, politician and internationalist, Sir Shridath has been honoured by many legal, political, economic, humanitarian and academic organizations and institutions worldwide. His academic eminence is reflected in his service as Chancellor of three highly respected universities.

Dr. WM. Warren Smith, who is slated to assume the role of President of the Caribbean Development Bank in May, 2011, will open the working sessions of UCCI’s International Conference on Governance, Leadership, and Empowerment in the Caribbean. Dr. Smith will address the opening plenary session on the morning of Friday, 18 March, at the university’s conference hall.

Her Honour Margaret Ramsay-Hale, Chief Magistrate of the Cayman Islands, headlines the UCCI International Conference’s second plenary session this Friday, 18 March, at the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall. Her presentation, “Feminism 2.0”, promises to be an attention-getter during the lunch-time event, beginning at 12 noon.

She will also be giving the response to Sir Shridath speech on Thursday evening, following which she will host the question and answer session.
